I am originally from Pirajuí, São Paulo, Brazil. My medical degree was earned at the University of São Paulo, where I also pursued a residency at the Hospital das Clínicas and one additional year of specialization in Retina.
After this, I moved to Londrina, where I started my practice. My doctorate was earned through a “sandwich” program, spending one year at the Doheny Eye Institute (USC, California) and UNIFESP. My supervisors there were Professor Michel Farah and Stephen J. Ryan.
For the past 32 years, I have served as an associate professor at the State University of Londrina. In addition, I have held the position of general secretary of BRAVS for three terms and Director of Publications.
In the last three years, I have been the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Retina and Vitreous.
I have 125 publications, mostly in PubMed-indexed journals, as well as some books and book chapters. I am also involved in post-graduate studies at UEL for 28 years and am currently the vice-coordinator.
I have been married to my lovely Diba for 37 years, and we have two adorable children, Rafaell and Mariana. Mariana is married to Paulo, and they have given me two beautiful grandchildren, Antonio and Maria Isabel.
